Emmanuel Golino Biography
1907: Mother and father, Giuseppe Golino and Nunziata Floridia, moved from Canicattini Bagni, Sicily to Temple Street, Hartford, Connecticut
1910: Emmanuel Francis Golino born
1930’s: Lived on North Main Street in Hartford, near where the Kenney Tower now stands. Nunziata, Manny’s mother was a seamstress at G Fox, and Giuseppe (Joe), worked at the Municipal Stables and later at Underwood Typewriters.
1924-1928: Attended Hartford Public High School, graduating 1928
1928-1932: Attended Trinity College, Captain of the Trinity College Basketball Team
Attended Rochester Medical School for Pediatric Medicine and later interned at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Maintained part of the St. Francis Hospital Pediatric Medicine staff for decades, where he met his wife, Agnes Irene Maguire, a nurse.
While Agnes was sent to Hiroshima, Manny was sent to Puerto Rico, a Lieutenant in the Coast Guard.
Returned home to marry Agnes and have 4 children, Ann (1949), Joseph (1953) John (1954) and Dave (1961) in East Hartford.
1940’s, 50’s and 60’s: Maintained 2 offices, one in downtown Hartford and the other at his multigenerational home with his sister Sue, his parents, and his family. His Pediatric office in downtown Hartford was kept until the 1960’s and his office at home in East Hartford was maintained until the 1990’s. Dr. Golino made house calls everyday until he ended his practice.
Was the Pediatric Physician for several schools in Hartford.
East Catholic School Physician from the school’s inception until he retired, where his children attended, and is a member of the East Catholic Hall of Fame.
