Born in Palazzolo Acreide in 1930, Gaetano lived there until 1957 when he immigrated to Hartford and married Ann Golino, whom he had met some 8 years earlier and with whom he had been in contact all this time.
In a scene reminiscing of the Godfather, Anna was visiting Palazzolo Acreide with her father in 1949 when Gaetano noticed her. And, as was expected in those days, he approached Ann's father for permission to see the daughter, permission which was granted but WITH SUPERVISION!
And the marriage was no less eventful! Gaetano came to the USA as a tourist and therefore could remain more than a specified period of time. The newlyweds would end up spending some 8 months in a honeymoon that saw them visiting Paris and Rome before they were finally able to return legally to the USA!
An accomplished tailor ( Gaetano's father had operated a tailor shop in Palazzolo Acreide for many years)), Gaetano began working at then well known firm of Warner & Bailey, before joining another legendary shop, Stackpole Tryon, and also worked for Clipper Shop! World heavyweight champion Joe Frazier was Gaetano's loyal customer!
Ann was a teacher and worked in the Manchester and Hartford school system until her retirement!
Gaetano was hard working, a family man and a disciplinarian! When his oldest son Paul ( one of four children) was attending South Catholic he so impressed the football coaching with the strength of his arm that they decided to pay a visit to the father to convince him to let his son play!
They failed to do so and Paul was given a gentle caress ( tumbuluni) by his father who thought Paul was into the plan!
Unfortunately Gaetano died much too young at age 51!

Purtroppo Gaetano morì troppo giovane all'età di 51 anni!
This 1929 citation was issued to Salvatore Golino, father in law to Mr. Lobello, and you can recognize the signature of Benito Mussolini, then Secretary of War, at bottom right. Thanks to Paul LoBello for sharing this precious item with us and for preserving it!
1949 picture and article showing the Golino family going to Palazzolo where Ann would meet Gaetano!
